George Barbier
Fumee
Pochoir
This is a hand coloured pochoir from the highly collectible Gazette du Bon Ton, Issue #1 (1921), Plate #8. More high drama from Barbier as a near camouflage effect hides the "evidence" burning. Notice the design progression from pure Chinese on the bombe chest to the Parisian fashion adaptation on the De Beer gown to the final metamorphosis as the precursor to the popular Art Deco floral print wall covering. This image is yet another tribute to Barbier's brilliance of illustrative imagination and unmistakably confident style. H. 9.75in X W. 7.75in; H. 24.4cm X 19.7cm
