George Barbier
Fumee
Pochoir
This is a hand coloured pochoir from the highly collectible Gazette du Bon Ton, Issue #1 (1921), Plate #8. More high drama from Barbier as a highly patterned near camouflage effect conceals the "evidence" burning. Barbier uses a progression from classical Chinese on the bombe chest to a fashion adaptation on the De Beer gown to the final metamorphosis on the wallpaper. This image is yet another tribute to Barbier in presenting the latest haute couture creation in a representative interior which itself illustrates the Oriental influence of the New look. As he frequently does, Barbier creates a tease of a story-line as the flame-haired beauty sets our imagination alight. H. 9.75in X W. 7.75in; H. 24.4cm X 19.7cm
