Thayaht
Evening Gown by Madeleine Vionnet
Pochoir
This 77 year old original print is by Ernesto Michaelles (1893-1959), who produced sculpture, paintings, fabric designs, theatrical costumes and fashion illustrations under the pseudonym "THAYAHT". Michaelles completed a great number of designs and fashion illustrations for the Paris Couture Madeleine Vionnet. This illustration, using the hand-colored pochoir technique, is a particularly dramatic example of THAYAHT's approach to fashion illustration, which incorporates the optical tricks of cubism with the curved and sculpted lines of high Art Deco. This illustration appeared as plate #3 of the June 1923 Gazette du Bon Ton (Issue #1). The condition is excellent - fresh color (but salmon, which tends to show red in the scan), no tears, folds, foxing or damage marks. Barely the faintest hint of tanning around the outer edges. h.9.625in X w.7.5in; h.24.4cm X w.19.1cm
