Pochoir on heavy artist's rag paper, 1917. Hand signed in pencil, lower right (as well as in the plate, upper right); a collaborative work with publisher Lucien Vogel in a small, hand-colored edition size of 250, this being 206/250 (pencil, lower right). A famous art icon that subsequently appeared as the November 1917 cover of Vogue Magazine, English Edition. This stunning rare artwork is an unusual oversize for the pochoir medium, and combines a patriotic fashion statement with political history. Lepape was a devoted French patriot, and it is in keeping with his art-as-the-message that he would create "historical mascot", the cheering and wildly victorious Marianne. He simultaneously showcases a tri-colour frock and the tricouleur French flags to celebrate the WWI victory.
