L'Essayage A Paris
Pochoir
This piece is by Ernesto Michaelles (1893-1959), who produced sculpture, paintings, fabric designs, theatrical costumes and fashion illustrations under the pseudonym "THAYAHT". Michaelles, fascinated with applying his study of dynamic symmetry (Paris and Harvard) to the arts, created his hallmark style by combining the geometrics of cubism with the Art Deco curvilinear style - the achievement of motion and elegance all in one go! 'L'Essayage A Paris', in the hand-colored pochoir technique, appeared as Plate #27 in issue #4 from the 1922 Gazette du Bon Ton. One of Thayaht's most sought-after images illustrates Vionnet's concept of a touring outfit for flying. Quintessential Art Deco elements. Historically, also a valuable commentary: this was to commemorate the first commercial passenger flight between Croydon, England and Bourget, France. Approx. H. 9.675in X W. 7.0in; H. 24.6cm X W. 17.8cm
